信長と共に歩んでしまった過ちに対する怒り、光秀が信長を討つ決心が、「本能寺 I」から続く形で始まります。曲の冒頭は思考するために冷静さが保たれている様子が表現されていますが、直ぐに運命と破滅が — 「運命と破滅 」のコードが金管と高い弦によって1’40から演奏 — 光秀の思考に訪れます。

光秀が決死の行動が取る様子は見受けられなかった。2’00からは（ホメーロスの叙事詩『イーリアス』にて）トロイア戦争にいく前のアキレウスのように、光秀が自営地にて自らに対して怒りと運命を感じる様子が表現されています。行動しなくてはならないことは分かりつつも、激しすぎる怒りにより、直ぐにできない。しかし、自分が何をすべきであったか、過去の自分とも向き合い、討つ決意を徐々に固めはじます。

3’22にて、決心し命じます。軍は一気に動いて戦陣を構え、互いに号令を出し合い、銃が渡され、馬たちが位置に着きます。4’10からは、状況が一時膠着してソロ太鼓の鼓動と共に戦いの瞬間への緊迫感が高まる様子です。弦の演奏が4’50から始まり、高まる緊迫感と攻撃直前の細かな動作が表現されています。

5’39からは — Boom! 戦いの始まりです。武力が行使され、至る場所に死が満ちていきます。援軍や補給と共に、双方は交互に鬩ぎ合いが表現される中、6’39に嘆きを感じさせるような光秀のテーマが戻ってきます。光秀の状況が有利でも不利でも、自らの君主を討つため、極めて悲しく強い感情を抱いている瞬間です、

7’24″からは、最後の攻撃です。信長は希望が絶たれ（「本能寺 I」で使用された）運命のコードをアレンジした響きと共に、燃える本能寺で信長が死を迎える様子が表現されています。

This piece takes over as Mitsuhide, having become enraged with himself at his mistake to ally with Nobunaga, starts to determine he will attack Nobunaga after all.  At first he is relatively calm, gathering his thoughts, but soon a sense of fate and doom – the “fate and doom” chords played in the brass and high strings – crash into his thoughts (about 1’40).

At first, though, Mitsuhide is too out of sorts and preoccupied to take action.  From 2’00, I picture him brooding, angry at himself and his fate, in his tent, like Achilles before Troy.  He knows he should take action but is too angry, upset and out of sorts to take action immediately.  However, he is reflecting on the past and on what is before him, gradually gathering his resolve to attack.

At 3’22, he has decided to move, and begins issuing orders.  Soldiers run back and forth, readying for battle, shouting orders, moving guns and horses into positions.  At 4’10 things pause momentarily and the tension gradually builds over a solo drum that continually beats toward the coming battle.  Strings join at 4’50 building the tension and indicating complex, interlocking actions that are necessary before an attack.

At 5’39 – boom!  The attack begins.  Forces are now engaged and deaths are all around.  Reserves are brought up, momentary advantages for one side or another go back and forth – at 6’39 Mitsuhide’s theme, somewhat mournful, returns.  He may be winning or not, but either way it is a sad and powerfully emotional moment for him as he is taking action to kill his lord.

At 7’24 the final assault begins.  Nobunaga has no hope at this point and the Fate chords return, this time extended, as Nobunaga meets his end in the burning temple.
