この多才な人物は、巧妙な作家であり、科学者であり発明家であり、政治家でもありました。また、日本やアジアの各地、そして西洋からの知識を貪欲に学び続ける熱心な研究者としても知られ、各地を絶えず移動する生活でも有名でした。源内が活躍したのは、まさに変動の時代で、彼自身も落ち着きのない性格であったと伝えられているため、彼の多国籍な知識と関心を音楽で表現するために、日本の三味線や笛、インドのサントゥール、タブラやドーラク太鼓、シタール、ディルルバ、中東風の弦楽器、そして西洋のアコーディオン、ダルシマー、ハープシコードなどを取り入れてみました。旋律は、独特な軽やかさを出すために変則的なリディア旋法で奏でられています。

This multi-talented character was a clever writer, a scientist and inventor, a politician, and a voracious student of knowledge, whether from Japan, elsewhere in Asia, or the West. He was also famous for his peripatetic movements from place to place. Since Gennai was reputedly a restless man in a restless age, I decided to try representing his multinational knowledge and interests using instruments from Japan (shamisen and reed flutes), India (santur, tabla and dholak drums, sitar, and Dilruba), Persian-style strings, and, from the West, accordion, dulcimer and harpsichord. The melody is played on a modified Lydian scale, to give it a different lilt.
