矜持 / Pride
この時代、江戸では、それぞれの身分や立場に応じた正しいふるまい方や将来の進路に対する考え方がありました。町人、武士、役人、百姓、そして支配階層——その誰もがそれぞれに自分の価値を高く評価していました。しかし、誇りにはさまざまな顔があります。それは人を奮い立たせ、献身や努力を生む一方で、ときに人を頑なにし、傲慢や欲、そして残酷ささえも生み出してしまう。この楽曲は、そんな「誇り」という感情のさまざまな側面を映し取ろうとするものです。
Each cohort in Edo at this time had its vision of correct behaviour, and of aspirations held for the future. Whether merchants, samurai, functionaries, peasants, or members of the upper regions of society and authority, each held aspects of his or her existence in high esteem. However, pride has many sides; it can inspire great effort and unselfish sacrifice, but it can also lead to harshness, arrogance, greed, and even cruelty. This piece intends to capture some of the many aspects of this feeling of pride.
