江戸城内に渦巻く陰謀の最中、妬みに満ちた敵に囲まれながらも、田沼意次はひたむきに世の中に繁栄と豊かさをもたらそうと努めます。しかし、私利私欲に塗れた策士たちに足元を掬われ、疑惑の種となるようなありもしない噂話をばら撒かれ、それはやがて悲劇を生み出すこととなっていきます。この曲は意次を取り巻く権謀術数の数々を描き出します。その渦は次第に勢力を蓄え、意次とその家族をさらに追い込もうと蠢いています。揺れ動くハーモニーは駆け引きや誤解、すれ違いを、絡み合う弦の動きはじわじわと彼を追い詰める蜘蛛の巣のような網を表現しています。下野竜也マエストロの指揮のもと、NHK交響楽団によって奏でられる壮大な音楽が、この闘いの巨大な渦にふさわしい重厚な構造を作り出しています。

Surrounded by the machinations of the court, beset by enemies full of envy and jealousy, Tanuma nevertheless strives to create prosperity and plenty. Unfortunately, self-interested schemers undermine him, sowing doubt and feeding false narratives that lead to tragedy. This piece illustrates the devious currents that swirl around Tanuma, which grow ever more powerful, weaving snares for him and his family. The shifting harmonies reflect this sidestepping and the weaving strings illustrate the web that gradually tightens around him. The grand scale, provided by the NHK Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Tatsuya Shimono, provides the appropriate “architecture” for the titanic struggle.
